About

The Ken Turner Band is one of the longest surviving big bands in the country, having been formed around 1960. The band started out as a nine-piece unit, and was augmented to a sixteen-piece band when offered a residency at The Bull (as it then was) in Hornchurch, Essex. In the mid 70s the band came close to winning Opportunity Knocks, the X-Factor of its day! Since then it has been on radio, television and done numerous live gigs for charity events and private functions. The band mainly performs numbers from the golden era of big bands and swing music, including those made famous by Glen Miller, Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Count Basie. Our sets include many of the greatest songs from that era too with hits from Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Bobby Darin and Michael Buble. We are available for hire for weddings, private functions and charity events. If you want the unbeatable sound of a live, big band to add a bit of class to your event, get your guests dancing and give you a night to remember then you have come to the right place! If you would like a sneak preview of the band first, then why not come along to one of our rehearsals that we hold every month? It’s free to get in and you can have a drink at the bar and meet the band members. Rehearsal dates are listed on the home page of this website.
